I’ve been thinking on 2011 and all the changes that have happened in my life this past year. This has been a pivotal year for me for sure…
When me and my former band Hello Danger parted ways in February, it was a time of searching for me, and what I wanted to focus on next. I always knew I wanted to live in LA at some point (since my first visit here in 2005), so it didnt take long for me to make the decision to move away from my hometown for the first time in my life. Once this decision was made, I worked harder than I ever have in my life for the 5 months leading up to the move in August. I was rotating 2 jobs, Dj’ing, and put together my final artshow in Jacksonville. I sold pretty much everything I owned (built up from a lifetime in one town), which seemed like an almost full-time job in itself. It was the first time in my life that I consistently focused on nutrition, exercising, and living a healthier lifestyle. It was also the first time that I was really able to live well under my means and save money. I have such an amazing family and group of good friends in Jacksonville, so leading up to my departure was a lot of great interactions and temporary farewells. These five months were probably the most productive of my life so far.
The road trip out here to the west coast was such a great time with good friends, we had a blast. The unlimited possibilities of our new lives in California were constantly on our minds, while appreciating the amazing scenery along the way. Since I’ve been in LA, I have worked some different types of jobs, explored the city, and generally have a new perspective on life. Moving away from home for the first time probably has that effect on most people. I’ve been creating new goals for where I see myself in the future, and what types of creative endeavors I want to tackle. Yes I’ve spent the money I saved up to come out here, lol, but I know I will always have and create more than enough. I have inevitably become very interested in the film industry since I’ve been here, and have acted as an extra on multiple things and have had one speaking role. I also recently invested in a great new Canon 60d camera, with all of the accessories, and can’t wait to keep discovering the possibilities of photography and film. I have a few documentaries in mind that I plan to create in 2012, as well as continue to act and just generally become more involved in film projects.
I can’t wait to visit Jacksonville next week for Christmas, and see my family and friends. This will be a great end to a particularly life changing year for me, and I am so pumped for 2012 and all of its limitless possibilities.
